Gravel, Single Trail, Views, …
This loop can either be ridden on a gravel or on a mountain bike. Choosing the gravel bike you should be aware that some sections require excellent bike handling skills. In the case of opting for the MTB the recommended bike handling skills are medium. So if you want to go for a “chill” ride take the MTB, if you prefer it somewhat demanding take that gravel bike.
Personally, I really like that htis loops offers a bit of everything in well digestible portions. There is single trail action, there are flat, nicely rolling gravel sections and there are stunning viewing spots along the route. As you’ll be riding up “Irchel” there is a decent climb along the road and after that a few more puchier climbs will follow. But don’t be fooled, mostly this route takes you either up or downhill and the flat sections are never really long.
This version of the route starts in Freienstein, but since it’s a loop, the starting point can be moved to Bülach, Eglisau, Winterthur or Kloten.
In the case of nice places for a break I’d recommend either Eglisau or Rüdlingen. Riding through Rüdlingen you’ll pass by a beautiful restaurant as well as the Gelateria Paulangelo, but the latter is only opened on week-ends. A little furhter along the route in Eglisau you can either head for ViCAFE or Vivi Kola Bar, both are great choices to have a break.
